This film explores the human dimension of the interaction between Americans and Pakistanis resulting from the earthquake. It brings to light how people relate at a human level and how easily perceptions, preconceived notions and mutual suspicion break down when people respond with their innermost self. The theme and style are positive, upbeat and celebrating the human spirit, highlighting how two diverse and sometimes diametrically opposed cultures come together and rise above these differences. The earthquake spawned countless stories of kindness, compassion and selfless giving. Our film will focus on one such story. Interviews and conversations with people on both sides of the tragedy form the support structure for the film. The US interviewees include volunteers, humanitarian organizations, doctors and experts. On the Pakistani side, victims, volunteers and aid workers who worked side by side with the Americans.
The interviews with the Americans explore the motivation behind helping people that are often portrayed as militant and anti-American. What drove them to give of their energy, money, time and effort? What did they think of Pakistanis and Muslims before this disaster occurred and have those views now changed. Interviews with the Pakistanis focus on how willing they were on accepting Americans and their help. Were they surprised to find Americans amongst their saviors -- and if their views and thoughts about Americans had changed.
Although the film includes a number of individuals, the primary character is an American relief worker who is a musician by trade but through fate found himself in the wreckage of the Twin Towers on 9/11. He then worked with the tsunami victims in Sri Lanka, carried out rescue missions in New Orleans during Katrina and on October 11th arrived in Pakistan to help with the earthquake rescue operations planning to stay for ten days only. He has been in Kashmir since then and has won the hearts and minds of every single person he has touched, and in doing so has found himself. He was interviewed in the USA for the film and then traveled back to Kashmir with the film crew
